Kings Langley News

NEWS

  • Sadly, there is some doubt that the annual Kings Langley carnival will continue in 2009 due to lack of volunteers to help run the event. Following a meeting at the Rotary Club in Kings Langley, members discussed how they could get round this problem and make 2009’s 10th festival a success.

Members from the Parish Council and Simon Fancourt from the Apsley Scouts have agreed to help with the event, but the emphasis has been put on encouraging those in the community to volunteer some time between the months of December – July next year.

If you, or anyone you know would like to participate in organising the event in any way, then please call Peter Clark on 01923 670429 and it would be greatly appreciated.

  • A new Children’s Centre has opened in Kings Langley for families with children under the age of 5. The centre has been created under the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ scheme and is being endorsed by former Head of Kings Langley JMI Ian Stevens and current Head Paula Harris.

The scheme open to those who live in the areas of Kings Langley, Bedmond and Nash Mills and aims to provide: A ‘Stay And Play’ drop-in service, advice, information, support and links to childcare workshops and courses.

For any enquiries or general information, give Angela, Kerry or Zoe a call on 01923 481670 / 07811 166378.
  • Kings Langley School’s outdoor education centre is celebrating a huge 40 years of operation on Saturday 8th November this year with a dinner at the school, along with a media presentation, professional catering and a village’s very own Jazz band – The Farmhouse Three.

Since 1968, over 5,000 pupils have passed through the doors of the centre to learn about the great outdoors in the converted 16th century farmhouse.

Tickets are limited to 220 people, so if you are interested contact J Darlington at 5 Osbourne Avenue, Kings Langley, WD4 8DD.

  • Abbotts Langley’s well-known Indian restaurant, The Forest Of India, has recently undergone a drastic refurbishment to update it’s appearance for customers.

The 12 year old establishment, owned and run by Mr Chowdhury of Abbotts Langley, now has a wine and cocktail bar, dance floor, special lighting effects and attractive leather furniture.

To witness the new look for yourself, book a table at The Forest Of India on 01923 270070.
  • Food outlets in Hertfordshire are reinforcing the importance of wearing a seatbelt whilst driving. The scheme that will be reaching out to 75,000 commuters, will attempt to make the message heard by printing the motto – ‘No Excuses – Wear a seatbelt’ on sandwich bags, in the hope that workers buying lunch will remember to use their belt even for short journeys.

It has been found that lorry and truck drivers are the worst for the dangerous habit, with the common excuse being ‘I forgot’.

The only workers who are exempt from the rule, are those who are delivering products, travelling only 50 metres or less for each stop.

Members of the Hertfordshire Resilience organisation have taken the steps to design a postcard that will provide vital information and advice that you would need to know in an emergency situation, as an alternative to using 999.

The card contains vital information to have on hand in case of crisis scenarios such as severe weather situations, power failures or flu pandemics. It also provides useful websites and phone numbers that can be used to prepare for the worst.

The simple purpose of the card is for the communities to know how to react in an emergency, without having to use the 999 line and can be picked up from Libraries, Doctors Surgeries, Hospitals, day centres and family centres.
